Mission Contribution: The High School Business and Information Technology Teacher empowers students with the technology, problem-solving, and digital literacy skills necessary for academic, career, and lifelong success. Through engaging, standards-aligned instruction in business applications, computer technologies, information systems, and emerging technologies, the teacher prepares students to effectively use technology in postsecondary education, the workplace, and everyday life. This role fosters critical thinking, collaboration, professional skills, and responsible digital citizenship while supporting student achievement through a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Summary: The High School Business and Information Technology Teacher guides students to apply problem-solving skills to real-life situations through word processing, spreadsheets, databases, multimedia presentations, and integrated software activities. The teacher assists students individually and in groups to explore computer concepts, operating systems, networks, telecommunications, emerging technologies, and career opportunities related to the business field. The High School Business and Information Technology Teacher facilitates student success in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing state approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students'; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. The teacher reports to the Principal and Lead Teacher.

Essential Functions:

1. Design and deliver instruction aligned with Virginia's Business and Information Technology (B&IT) CTE program area standards, VDOE curriculum frameworks, and Excel Center guidelines, ensuring mastery of business and technology competencies as evidenced by assessment results.
2. Teach assigned B&IT courses.
3. Develop and assess student learning through projects, presentations, exams, and performance-based assessments that reflect real-world business and technology applications.
4. Integrate technology and business software applications into instruction, which may include G Suite, MS Office, and other tools aligned with current workplace practices and Virginia CTE frameworks.
5. Promote career readiness, financial literacy, workplace ethics, and professional communication skills to prepare students for postsecondary education and careers in business and information technology.
6. Differentiate instruction to accommodate varying skill levels, learning styles, and academic needs, ensuring all students have the opportunity to succeed.
7. Ensure a structured and respectful classroom environment that aligns with the Excel Center's expectations, fostering a positive learning atmosphere and student engagement.
8. Foster a classroom culture of high expectations, critical thinking, and respect, ensuring a positive learning environment as reflected in student engagement and feedback.
9. Prepare students for state-mandated assessments, Virginia CTE competency assessments, and industry credentialing examinations approved by the Virginia Board of Education.
10. Support student recruitment, enrollment, and outreach initiatives to promote academic and career opportunities.
11. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, lesson plans, and progress reports, ensuring timely submission in accordance with school policies.
12. Utilize formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress, provide actionable feedback, and track demonstrated improvement in business and technology competencies.
13. Collaborate with colleagues, counselors, administrators, and community business partners to develop and implement student support strategies that promote academic and career success.
14. Supervise student organizations and work-based learning experiences as assigned.
15. Actively participate in professional development opportunities and collaborative initiatives to enhance instructional practices and contribute to school-wide improvement efforts.
16. Attend training sessions, meetings, and company-related events as required.
17. Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
18. Adhere to all Goodwill and Excel Center policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Strong understanding of Virginia's CTE Business and Information Technology program area standards, VDOE curriculum frameworks.
• Proficient in designing and delivering B&IT instruction to adult learners, with experience in both traditional and non-traditional learning environments.
• Effective communication, organizational, and classroom management skills for maintaining a positive and productive learning environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and accommodate varying learning needs through differentiated instruction.
• Ability to create, evaluate, and implement instructional strategies to enhance student learning outcomes across business and technology content areas.
• Proficient in using G Suite, MS Office, business software applications, and student information systems to support instructional and administrative tasks.
• Capable of providing constructive feedback to students to improve their business knowledge, technology skills, and academic performance.
• Skilled in analyzing student performance data to inform instructional decisions and drive improvements in learning outcomes.

Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Business Education, Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in a high school or adult education setting.
• Valid Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement in Business and Information Technology (B&IT), or eligibility to obtain Virginia licensure in this program area.
• Experience in technology-enhanced instruction and project-based learning.
• Must be able to successfully complete any assigned Goodwill training within the required period of time upon employment.

Special Requirements:

• Industry experience in business, finance, marketing, management, entrepreneurship, or information technology.
• Familiarity with Virginia CTE B&IT program area courses, VDOE curriculum frameworks, and Virginia Board of Education-approved industry credentials.
• Experience advising or supervising student business organizations, including Virginia FBLA.
• Knowledge of Virginia CTE work-based learning methods and high-quality work-based learning (HQWBL) requirements.
• Reliable transportation is required to commute to and from the center for scheduled shifts.
• Open availability for all scheduled shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, as needed to meet business demands.
• Must provide a cell phone for specified work responsibilities, including the use of a phone-based application for authentication.
• Must successfully complete a state background investigation and drug screen.
• TB screening is a requirement for this position.

Compensation for this role will be offered within the posted hiring range and determined in good faith based on job-related factors, including experience, skills, and alignment with internal equity.
