Summary: In support of the perishable foods manager and department assistant manager, provide leadership and motivation within the Market on Melrose to ensure consistent world-class customer experience through the superior show of quality and friendly customer service. Assist in training and demonstrate to staff to conduct their job duties in a safe, friendly, and efficient manner.

Essential Functions:

1. Collaborate with the department manager and assistant to maintain daily operations, ensuring the department is operating with excellence, effective merchandising and accurate inventory control.
2. Regularly assess deli and cafe conditions through detailed walks, ensuring compliance with all food safety regulations (local, state, and federal). Report any noncompliance to department manager.
3. Assist department manager with scheduling and inventory management for the department.
4. Ensure accuracy of product dates, timely rotations, and maximize efforts to sell through products through internal transfers, price reductions, or other methods to minimize product waste. Suggest and/or report all changes to department manager.
5. Oversee and expect from team members the accurate pricing and stocking of all items as well as world-class customer service while on the sales floor and food service line at all times.
6. Work in partnership with department manager to maintain product levels and conditions required by vendors.
7. Develop a thorough knowledge of department products and their location to answer customer questions and provide product recommendations.
8. Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations to include all safety guidelines required by Goodwill, the Market on Melrose, and all safe food handling requirements. Report any team members not in compliance.
9. Adhere to all company policies and operational procedures. Report any team members not in compliance.
10. Insist upon a customer-focused environment, ensuring that all customers receive outstanding service, and that the store is recognized for excellence in customer experience, using the tag line "Thank you for choosing the Market on Melrose" at every opportunity.
11. Resolve customer complaints and issues promptly, maintaining a professional and friendly store atmosphere.
12. Effectively train and develop team members, acting as a resource for their roles.
13. Support department manager with interviews, hiring decisions, and assist with onboarding and training of newly hired team members.
14. Attend training sessions, meetings, and company-related events as required.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Effective verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and respond to questions from supervisors, team members, and customers.
• Basic mathematical proficiency, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, team members, and diverse internal and external customers.
• Positive and friendly attitude, contributing to a collaborative work environment and enhancing team morale.
• Solid understanding of grocery store operations
• Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job.
• Ability to use technical information to solve problems.

Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Experience:

• High school diploma or GED certificate required.
• One year or more of customer service experience.
• Certified Food Safety accreditation through National Registry of Food Safety Professionals or similar organization is required or the ability to obtain the certification within 30 days of employment, with ongoing compliance throughout employment.
• Prior experience in deli operations, or other relevant work experience preferred.
• Prior leadership of people preferred.

Special Requirements:

• Must successfully pass a drug screen prior to employment.
• A background check required during employment based on company policy or specific job responsibilities.
• A valid driver's license and the ability to provide proof of insurance is required to drive personal vehicle on company business. Additionally, an acceptable motor vehicle record based on Goodwill guidelines is required to drive a company vehicle.

• Able to lift, push, pull, carry, or otherwise move up to forty (40) pounds with no support regularly. For weight over forty (40) pounds, request additional team member assistance as needed.

Work Environment:

• Fast-paced grocery store setting
• Ability to travel minimally required for training or meetings.
• Open available to work all hours of operation, including weekends, holidays, and occasional extended hours.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to varying temperatures, such as refrigeration areas and heat, cold and adverse weather conditions.
• The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate.
