8 Crystal Spring Tower Intensive Care Unit (8 CST ICU) is a 12-bed specialized surgical intensive care unit that serves several primary patient populations. Our critical care nurses' practice in a setting where patients require complex ongoing assessment, multiple therapies, and interventions. This unit has a reputation for excellence and currently the only ICU within the Carilion Clinic system to be recognized with a Gold Level Beacon Award by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Our nurses rely upon a specialized body of knowledge, skills, and experience to provide care to patients after vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, interventional radiology, or an acute stroke.
This position is FLEX, working the day/evening/night shift with every other weekend and rotating holidays
As part of the health care team, the Patient Care Technician performs basic clerical and technical clinical services relating to the care, cleanliness, safety, and comfort for patients of all ages. Provides quality service through a team oriented, collaborative approach to patient care.
Job Scope:
May be required to support multiple nursing units. Interacts with unit staff, patients, physicians, families, visitors, management, ancillary departments, and the general public. Maintains patient, staff and customer confidentiality. If assigned to perform patient care tasks, must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span, possess the ability to recognize and report data reflective of the patient's status, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age and specific needs, and provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures. May be required to sit with patients on suicide precautions or confusion. Ability to perform responsibilities in a fast-paced environment, requiring use of prioritization and time management skills. May be exposed to infectious diseases, biohazardous and hazardous materials, including regulated medical wastes, and combative patients. Prolonged periods of sitting, visualizing computer screen and using keyboard may be necessary. May be required to work at multiple Carilion facilities.

Job Responsibilities: Work is performed in patient care environment and is often fast-paced, requiring use of prioritization skills.

Successful candidate MUST BE able to attend required orientation classes during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm for the first 2 weeks. These classes are mandatory!
Compensation Range:
$17.39 - $24.35
Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
