Trainer – Subject Matter Training & Development

Location: Roanoke Virginia

Department: Human Resources

Position Summary

Virginia Transformer Corp., the largest U.S.-owned manufacturer of power transformers in North America, is seeking a Trainer – Subject Matter Training & Development to support employee learning, operational excellence, and workforce development initiatives across the organization.

This role will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering subject matter training programs for employees across manufacturing, operations, engineering, and corporate functions. The Trainer will work closely with department leaders and subject matter experts to ensure training content supports operational performance, safety, quality, and employee development objectives.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and facilitation skills, experience developing training materials, and the ability to effectively engage employees in a manufacturing and industrial environment.

This position reports directly to the AVP of Human Resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize, and deliver subject matter training materials and programs across the organization
  • Create presentations, manuals, job aids, assessments, and supporting instructional content
  • Facilitate classroom, virtual, and hands-on training sessions for employees and leadership teams
  • Partner with operations, engineering, manufacturing, and HR leadership to identify training needs and development opportunities
  • Support onboarding, employee development, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain training records, participation tracking, and training documentation
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and recommend enhancements to programs and learning materials
  • Assist with development of standardized training processes and workforce development strategies
  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, quality, and continuous learning
  • Support organizational initiatives related to leadership development, technical training, and operational excellence

Qualifications

  • Minimum Associate degree required
  • Minimum 15 years of total exempt-level professional work experience required
  • Minimum 3 years of continuous full-time experience developing and delivering training programs and materials
  • Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Experience creating structured training content and instructional documentation
  • Ability to work effectively across manufacturing, engineering, operations, and corporate teams
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint and Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within manufacturing, industrial, engineering, or heavy industrial environments preferred
  • Experience supporting technical workforce development initiatives preferred
  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Reports directly to the AVP of Human Resources
