Job Description:
Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for the Controller position. The Controller is a key strategic leader serving the Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation in its mission to support the students, faculty and staff of Virginia Western Community College. This is a hands-on position responsible for the Foundation's financial health, fund management and operations support – ensuring strong internal controls, impactful programs and transparent reporting to the Board of Directors, College leadership and philanthropic community. In support of the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the Controller assists with the operation and advancement of the accounting, development and scholarship software systems, the refinement and expansion of Foundation scholarships and program support, the administrative aspects of the Community College Access Program (CCAP) program, the generation of the financial statement of activities and investment reports and annual budget and supervision of designated division staff. The Controller provides oversight of scholarship, emergency fund, and success coaching programs, as well as other Foundation-funded student support services.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field. Experience in fund-based accounting and GAAP principles, Comfort with data and reporting tools, proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheets. Excellent analytical skills, project management, communication, and relationship-building, and staffing skills, with attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple priorities. Experience in providing oversight of the day-to-day business operations of a nonprofit organization or higher education finance.
Additional Considerations
Experience in grants management and reporting, scholarship administration and reporting. Experience with Board of Directors relationship management.
