Health Information Management Adjunct Faculty (Part-Time)

Virginia Western Community College, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for part-time Health Information Management Adjunct Faculty in the School of Business, Technology, and Trades (BTT). Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. Faculty are needed to teach college-level courses supporting the Health Information Management Career Studies Certificates and the Medical Administrative Management Specialization A.A.S. degree. These programs prepare students for careers in medical office management at hospitals and medical practices as well as medical coding and medical billing positions. Courses may include medical office procedures, health information management, medical coding, electronic billing, and administrative technologies. Classes meet in-person on the main Virginia Western campus as well as hybrid or distance learning/online courses. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and in trends in community college education. In addition, faculty are expected to be active participants in departmental communication. Applications will be received and considered on a continuous basis. Review of applications will occur when an adjunct faculty need arises and will continue until needed positions are filled.

Special Assignments: May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications: Master's degree in health information management, medical office administration, business administration, or a related field; or a Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in medical administration, health informatics, or business-related disciplines. Two years occupational experience in medical office management, health information systems, or administrative support roles in healthcare settings is required. All Adjunct Faculty positions require excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, experience writing syllabi and exams, as well as the ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.

Additional Considerations: Experience using technology in the classroom and teaching online. Experience teaching in a community college setting. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations.
