General Manager – Strategic Programs

(Roanoke, VA – Onsite)

Position Overview

Virginia Transformer is seeking a highly driven General Manager – Strategic Programs to lead and scale complex, high-value product programs across our organization.

This role is responsible for end-to-end ownership of a program as a business, including market development, sales strategy, product development, manufacturing execution, and delivery. The ideal candidate will operate with a CEO mindset, driving both revenue growth and operational excellence across cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

?? Program / Business Ownership

  • Own full lifecycle of assigned programs—from concept through commercialization and delivery
  • Drive program strategy aligned with company growth objectives
  • Manage financial performance, including revenue growth, margin, and cost control

?? Commercial & Market Leadership

  • Develop and execute go-to-market strategies for new and existing programs
  • Partner with or build sales channels to drive customer acquisition and growth
  • Engage directly with customers to understand needs, negotiate solutions, and close opportunities

?? Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Lead and align teams across:
  • Engineering
  • Sales
  • Manufacturing
  • Supply Chain
  • Ensure seamless coordination from design through production and delivery

?? Product & Execution Leadership

  • Oversee product development efforts in collaboration with engineering teams
  • Drive execution of complex, engineered-to-order products
  • Ensure on-time, on-budget delivery while maintaining high quality standards

?? Operational Excellence

  • Identify and implement improvements across program execution, cost structure, and delivery timelines
  • Drive accountability, urgency, and performance across all functions
  • Operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth manufacturing environment

Qualifications

?? Experience

  • 15–25+ years of experience in:
  • Program leadership
  • Business unit leadership
  • Product line ownership
  • Proven track record of managing complex, cross-functional programs or product lines

?? Commercial Acumen

  • Demonstrated experience with:
  • Revenue ownership or P&L responsibility
  • Sales strategy, customer engagement, or business development

?? Industry Background (Preferred)

  • Power / electrical equipment
  • Capital equipment / industrial manufacturing
  • Aerospace systems / automotive platforms
  • Engineered-to-order products

?? Leadership & Execution

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams at scale
  • Strong decision-making skills with a bias for action
  • Ability to operate with urgency and ownership in a high-performance environment

?? Education

  • Bachelor's degree required (Engineering or Business preferred)
  • MBA or advanced degree is a plus
