Literally grind the work day away as a Machinist. When you love what you do, it doesn't feel like work. We are seeking (2) formally trained machinists who will primarily handle wire and grinding duties for a fantastic client in Roanoke. These are fulltime, direct hire positions starting at $24/hr or DOE.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Review routing, work order, blueprints, Bill of Material, or other work specifications to conceptualize part(s) to be built
  2. Compute fabrication dimensions and plan sequence of work steps to be taken
  3. Retrieve necessary materials and components from Toolcrib area as needed
  4. Measure and mark raw metal block to lay out machining work, using required measurement devices
  5. Set up and operate both manual and CNC machinery to fabricate parts per routings or other instructions
  6. Heat-treat final parts as necessary
  7. Inspect finished parts to verify alignments and clearances for dimensional quality compliance
  8. Fit and assemble final parts, using fasteners and other required hand tools, per routing instructions
  9. Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of final part(s), using appropriate abrasive tools
  10. Plan for corrective action when deviations from component quality standards materialize
  11. Implement corrective action by making prescribed adjustments as directed
  12. Maintain clean work station throughout each shift.
  13. Understand and follow all quality-related standards and documentation
  14. Determine proper disposition of non-conforming product as directed
  15. Maintain satisfactory attendance record suitable for this position, and work overtime as needed
  16. Provide instruction on applied machining procedures to coworkers, as directed
  17. Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Must have acquired proficient machining through either formal instruction from a vocational school, technical center, high school or state/association apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment
  2. Must have experience with Computer Numerical Control (CNC)
  3. Must be able to operate complex machinery
  4. Must have advanced understanding of print schematics/blueprints
  5. Must be proficient in shop math, including trigonometry, metric conversions and linear measurement
  6. Must be comfortable with extensive troubleshooting/problem solving
  7. Must be able to handle repetitive activities with concentration and patience
  8. Must be able to work with the pressure of deadlines
  9. Must be comfortable with on-the-job training, cross-training and training other toolmakers
  10. Must be able to work as a team player as well as independently, exploring and sharing ways to improve efficiency
  11. Must be able to read, comprehend and carry out very detailed instructions, both written and oral
  12. Must be detail-oriented: accurate, consistent, thorough, neat, able to recognize material damage/flaws, punctual
  13. Must be able to maintain satisfactory attendance record and work overtime if required
  14. Must be able to maintain clean work area and demonstrate commitment to workplace safety


EQUIPMENT USED

Drills, mills, lathes, various hand-held and measuring tools, die trucks, etc. Other equipment may be assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires good hand/eye coordination, fine manipulation with hands and fingers, close/color vision, minimal fumes, moderate noise, lifting up to 50 pounds, moderate bending and stooping, standing and sitting.
