Staff Accountant

Role:

Responsible for supporting the financial management and operations of the credit union through maintenance of accounting records and reports. Performs accounting duties of intermediate complexity under minimal supervision. Provides management with financial information by researching and analyzing accounts; preparing financial statements.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • (50%) Prepares and posts general ledger entries by maintaining records and files. Process and record expenditures, check requests, and electronic payments. Provides timely and accurate reconciliations of all assigned general ledger accounts.
  • (20%) Prepares financial statements, budget variance reports and analysis for selected departments using various sources including the general ledger and outside bookkeeping systems.
  • (20%) Prepares and records asset, liability, and capital depreciation/amortization schedules and tracks current and disposed assets.
  • (10%) Performs other job related duties as assigned to include backup functions for other accounting positions.
Performance Measurements:
  • Must comply with government and other regulations affecting the credit union industry including, but not limited to, OFAC and the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Meets or exceeds performance expectations as described in Essential Functions and Responsibilities.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Two years of similar or related experience preferred.

Education: A bachelor's degree in accounting or related field preferred.

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy in dealing with others is required. Work involves extensive contact with others, usually within the organization. Contact may involve sensitive issues and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Strong work ethic and team player. Strong verbal and written communications skills and ability to communicate with various levels of management.

Other Skills: Strong PC skills including proficiency in Excel. Knowledge of basic, technical accounting tasks. Skill and ability to use and operate a keyboard (typewriter), computer, calculator, fax machine, copier and telephone. Excellent time management, organizational, analytical and problem solving abilities. Must be highly detail oriented, able to learn quickly, and able to work effectively with other individuals, and departments independently.

Work Environment: Work is performed indoors in an office environment with normal potential for exposure to safety and health hazards. May periodically travel to other, similar sites. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
