z/OS Systems Programmer (Part-Time or Full-Time)

Description:

  • Type: W2, Contract-to-Hire, 12+ months.
  • Location: Remote (U.S. only) or hybrid in Boulder, CO; local preferred; free parking if onsite.
  • Schedule: Part-time preferred (~24 hours/week, 3 days/week); full-time considered.
Role Summary:
  • Maintain, upgrade, and support IBM z/OS operating systems across complex environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues to ensure stability, performance, and uptime.
  • Install and configure IBM and ISV software using standard tooling and workflows.
  • Educate and assist users and team members on z/OS capabilities and best practices.
  • Provide documentation, technical guidance, and support across the software lifecycle.
  • Participate in scheduled maintenance windows, including occasional off-hours or weekends.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a small team of senior technical professionals.
  • ssume additional responsibilities as assigned.
Technical Requirements (Core):
  • Extensive hands-on z/OS systems programming experience (not operations and not application development).
  • Catalog management, ISPF/SDSF, and z/FS.
  • Unix System Services (USS).
  • JES2 and/or JES3; familiarity with SYS1.PARMLIB and SYS1.PROCLIB.
  • Configuration of couple data sets.
  • RACF administration, including user IDs, groups, certificates, resources, and key rings.
  • IBM software installation via ServerPac, z/OSMF, and CBPDO.
  • DFSMS, DFHSM, DFDSS, DFRMM, System Logger, and XCF.
  • DASD architecture, FICON/ESCON, cryptographic coprocessors, and virtual tape libraries (VTLs).
  • Proven ability to own z/OS tasks end-to-end with minimal oversight.
Preferred Skills:
  • VTAM, TCP/IP, and OSA.
  • z/VM systems programming.
  • Linux on z Systems and zCX (Container Extensions).
  • DS8000, FlashCopy, and tape libraries.
  • DFSMS Client routine and construct management.
