JOB DESCRIPTION
Apex Systems is seeking a Practice Manager with strong leadership and consulting skills to act as a practice leader within Apex Systems' Solutions Delivery Organization. The Practice Manager will provide strategic direction, leadership, and operational oversight for a team of internal practice consultants who design, develop, and deliver solutions for Apex clients. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality project delivery, driving team performance, and aligning the practice's capabilities with broader business goals. The Practice Leader will manage hiring, development, and mentoring a team along with building strong relationships with key stakeholders and clients. You will collaborate cross-functionally to identify growth opportunities, implement best practices, and maintain a culture of excellence and innovation within the practice.
This role will be responsible for technical/functional delivery oversight of one or more client engagements and will be actively working with our Solution Leaders to help win new opportunities to enable practice growth. This role will be responsible for managing, mentoring and developing our most senior practice consultants and other leaders. Employees who are not actively deployed on a client project and reside within a one-hour commute of an Apex branch office are expected to work onsite at least once per week.
RESPONSIBLITIES
Business Development:
- Participate in sales pursuits with Solutions Leaders by providing technical guidance, estimates, scoping and other pre-sales activities.
- Continually innovate, seek creative solutions and find new ways of adding value. Listen and seek to understand the client and meet their needs, providing consultative guidance.
- Stay attuned to the future needs of the client and work with internal resources to identify opportunities. Proactively provide solutions and approach adversity with a solution-focused mindset.
- Build strong client, industry, and technical community relationships and represent Apex Systems as leaders in Industry and Professional events and communities. Develop and maintain strong internal and external customer relationships.
- Be a trusted advisor and grow Apex business through consultative selling in partnership with our Solution Leaders and other internal partners. Help grow the practice through new Solutions business wins.
Client Delivery: - Demonstrate expert-level technical knowledge, skills, and effective professional consulting skills. Serve as a subject matter expert. Build trust and respect among internal and external stakeholders and model collaborative teamwork.
- Provide thought leadership to inspire others, create an engagement roadmap, communication plan, and any necessary reports for client delivery.
- Oversee and ensure all deliverables are met in alignment with the Statement of Work with a focus on exceptional delivery. Develop and track metrics to evaluate the performance of the project, including KPIs and project success metrics. Create workflows, dashboards, and reports to provide the team with meaningful operational and performance metrics.
- Lead and manage organizational change initiatives, ensuring successful transitions and adoption of new processes, technologies, and organizational structures. Monitor and measure the effectiveness of change initiatives, using data to refine approaches and ensure business objectives are met.
- Manage hybrid project teams consisting of Apex Contract Employees, Internal Apex employees, client employees and external vendors.
- Consistently exceed individual utilization target.
Practice Development: - Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team diverse team of consultants.
- Support the execution of the strategic roadmap for Enterprise Transformation Capability and Practice.
- Responsible for hiring, onboarding, and professional development of practice team members.
- Foster a Community of Practice that leads with innovation, collaboration, continuous improvement and revenue growth.
- Own and deliver on internal innovation, capability building, and the creation of accelerators and reusable assets.
- Build trust and respect among internal and external stakeholders and model collaborative teamwork. Develop and maintain strong internal and external customer relationships.
- Operate as a delivery sponsor across engagements, ensuring quality, timelines, scope adherence and client satisfaction. Jumping in to support staff as needed.
- Lead team members and direct reports to further the development, growth, and success of theteam, developing professionals for the next stage of their careers.
- Oversee business operations by exceeding team KPIs related to utilization, gross margin, and asset creation.
- Act as an escalation point for project issues and ensure timely resolution.
JOB REQUIREMENTS - 8+ years of experience in management and technology consulting, digital transformation, and technology optimization.
- 6+ years' experience as a Project and Program Manager in a large organization.
- 5+ years successfully leading teams in a technical/functional delivery role in an agile environment.
- 3+ years of experience participating in pre-sales and helping win new business.
- Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or related fields (applicable education and experience may be substituted).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, ITIL, Prosci, CCMP, Agile) strongly preferred.
- Expertise in designing and implementing technology frameworks, operating models, and governance processes for large-scale enterprises.
- Demonstrated expertise in management consulting, with proficiency in structured problem solving, hypothesis-driven analysis, and client engagement.
- Advanced knowledge of strategic planning methodologies and consulting tools.
- Successful leadership of digital transformation initiatives and technology integrations utilizing recognized consulting frameworks.
- Experience with change management and fostering cultures of innovation.
- Familiar with all project methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall and hybrid with ability to adapt to the project needs.
- Exceptional skills in consulting, written and verbal communication, negotiation, interpersonal communication, persuasion, problem solving, analysis, management, leadership and engagement delivery.
- Positive relationship builder able to navigate through complex situations to ensure the most robust and pragmatic solution
- Travel may be required.
