Survey Crew Chief

This position will lead a survey team in the field, collecting data to support design activities, boundary surveying, and providing sketches and layout to support construction activities. Responsibilities include providing technical expertise to internal and external clients, performing field work for land surveying scopes of work, including construction staking, boundary location, ALTA, and topography for various project types. Organize field staking materials as necessary. Operate GPS, total stations, scanners, and data collectors. Transfer files between data collectors and internal company project folders. Provide communication to the office teams regarding project status, daily progress, and issues. Maintain productive working relationships with clients and coworkers. Adhere to the company's Safety, Quality Management, and Equipment Maintenance policies. Ensure division, regional, and company policies and practices are consistently followed within the survey service. Lead by example, displaying solid judgment, good values, trust, honesty, openness, and professionalism.

Essential skills include experience in survey, land surveying, ALTA, and topographic surveys. Ability to effectively lead a survey crew and train/mentor survey crew members. Proficiency in operating total station and GPS in both static and RTK modes for surveying activities. Valid driver's license and clean driving history. OSHA 10 and CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to acquire. High degree of independence in performing tasks and solving problems. Basic 'office suite' computer skills.

Additional skills and qualifications include being physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments. Ability to carry survey equipment and supplies in remote, rural, or urban surroundings. Capability to lift 50 pounds and walk long distances. Ability to work in outdoor conditions subject to weather, insects, and changing environments. An Associate's Degree in Surveying, Engineering Technology, or related area of study. Experience in coordinating activities with office personnel, including surveying technicians and engineering staff.

This is a contract to hire position based out of Christiansburg, VA. The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $38.00/hr.
