Hospital Police Officer

Provides professional law enforcement services to the Carilion Clinic. These services include carrying out the objectives of the Clinic, the preservation of peace and protection of life and property, the prevention of crime and the enforcement of laws.

Responsibilities include:

• Locating and investigating suspicious conditions and complaints by responding to calls and patrolling Carilion Clinic facilities for security breaches such as unlocked doors and open windows.
• Assisting and coordinating with outside law enforcement agencies while they are interacting with hospital services, visitors, patients or staff.
• Guarding and/or providing security for prisoners, mental health patients, special events, dignitaries and staff when a need is identified.
• Responding quickly and professionally to all calls for service involving traffic, criminal or non-criminal incidents and requests for information or assistance.
• Enforcing laws, investigating crimes and processing crime scenes.
• Directing traffic while monitoring and enforcing parking regulations.
• Writing and filing all required reports in a timely manner.

Requirements:

Education: High School or equivalent required. Experience: No experience required, but previous law enforcement or security experience is preferred. Licensure/Certification: (1) Has met Virginia minimum training standards for law enforcement officers and is currently certified as a law enforcement officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, or; is eligible to attend and successfully complete such training within one year of being hired. (2) Valid Virginia driver's license required. Other: Must possess a driving record within the scope of Carilion's Driver Regulations. Due to Virginia's state law, the applicant must be at least 21 years of age. Computer keyboarding skills. Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Meets Virginia's minimum requirements for law enforcement officers.
