Description:

General Definition of Work: Performs school health services assisting students and staff with illnesses and/or medical problems, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Registered School Nurse.

Minimum Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Education Requirement:

High School Diploma/GED

Essential Functions: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Tends to the medical needs of students, faculty and staff; administers medication in accordance with written permission procedures.
  • Administers first aid as may be required in accordance with the Virginia Department of Health.
  • Documents daily clinic visits and necessary care provided; monitors blood sugar levels of diabetic students.
  • Enter a variety of information into the computer system.
  • Maintains appropriate supplies.
  • Communicates effectively with parents, when necessary, due to illness or emergency.
  • Refers suspected child or substance abuse to school administration.
  • Performs the duties of a Paraprofessional as required.
  • Performs related tasks as required or requested by a Registered School Nurse.

  • Conducting assessments: Administering cognitive, emotional, and behavioral assessments to identify students' strengths and challenges.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders: Meeting with teachers, parents, and administrators to discuss student progress, develop intervention strategies, and provide guidance on classroom management.
  • Providing support: Offering counseling and guidance to students facing emotional or behavioral difficulties, and assisting teachers with implementing effective teaching methods for diverse learning needs.
  • Documentation and planning: Writing assessment reports, intervention plans, and progress updates, while continually adapting strategies to meet the evolving needs of students.
