SCHOOL BUS DRIVER

Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia is accepting applications on an on-going basis for School Bus Driver positions that may become available within our Division.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The School Bus Driver has a unique opportunity to positively influence our students while providing safe and efficient transportation to and from school on a daily basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* High school diploma or equivalent, or passing score on the literacy test given by MCPS
* Must be 21 years of age or older
* Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license
* Must furnish a clean driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles showing that the applicant, within the preceding five years, has not been convicted of a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquors or drugs, convicted of a charge of refusing to take a blood or breath test, convicted of a felony, or assigned to any alcohol safety action program or driver alcohol rehabilitation program (pursuant to VA Code §18.2-271.1) or within the preceding 12 months, has not been convicted of two or more moving violations or has not been required to attend a driver improvement clinic by the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles (pursuant to VA Code § 46.2-497)
* Provide a reference statement, upon initial employment, signed by two reputable persons who reside in the school division or in the applicant's community, attesting that the person is of good and moral character
* Must be physically qualified to drive a school bus or other vehicle transporting students and pass a physical examination of a scope prescribed by the Virginia Board of Education furnished on a form prescribed by the Board showing such results (pursuant to VA Code § 22.1-178)
* Must have had a reasonable amount of experience in driving motor vehicles to be trained to drive a school or activity bus upon a highway in the Commonwealth of Virginia (pursuant to VA Code § 46.2-339)
* Dependability and punctuality required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Possess a valid Virginia "Class B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brakes and S and P endorsements, or be able to obtain one after receiving approved training offered by MCPS
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
SALARY: $24,019.00 - $42,117.00 annually; commensurate with experience and pro-rated to start date (this salary range is effective January 1, 2026)
BONUS: New school bus drivers who are fully qualified to drive upon hire and meet the training and licensure requirements set by the Commonwealth of VA may be eligible to receive a bonus of up to $4,000. Only drivers who meet the criteria and are cleared to drive immediately upon hire are eligible. Current drivers and drivers who have worked for MCPS in the past and return to MCPS are not eligible. Bonuses will be paid in accordance with criteria set forth by MCPS.
