Clinical Educator - Emergency Department - Roanoke
The Clinical Educator develops and delivers education to clinical staff, which provides staff the ability to deliver high quality, evidenced based, and safe patient care. Education includes clinical orientation, annual competencies and other clinical validation programs regularly incorporating emerging safety trends, regulatory policies, and quality performance priorities for the division and the organization.
The Clinical Educator:
- Assesses learning needs of clinical team and develops appropriate education or coordinates necessary education, and evaluates educational outcomes, including collaborating with external entities.
- Coordinates with Carilion Human Resources on developing, delivery, and assessment of clinical orientation, to include face to face and/or computer-based training.
- Develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates a clinical onboarding program to ensure a smooth transition to the practice setting.
- Establishes a preceptor program linking new staff with existing staff during the designated orientation timeframe and assesses program and makes refinements as indicated.
- Develops and maintains an education monitoring system to ensure compliance with accreditation requirements specific to clinical staff, to assist in initial accreditation and maintaining ongoing accreditation compliance.
- Develops and maintains an education monitoring system to meet individual and group education needs. Collaborates and communicates with managers regarding clinical staff progress or any needed action plan.
- Assists Safety and Compliance Officer(s) with the evaluation of proposed new policies and protocols and changes to current policies and protocols, presenting to Quality/Education Committees as appropriate. Supports the implementation of safety or safety related policies in the department.
- Develops, delivers and evaluates clinical annual competencies and other clinical validation programs; regularly incorporating emerging safety trends, regulatory policies, and quality performance priorities for the division and the organization.
- Develops a curriculum of educational topics annually, which can be coordinated by the practice manager and/or clinical staff and are aligned with safety trends, regulatory policies, and quality performance priorities for the division and the organization.
- Participates in clinical staff performance reviews as appropriate. This would apply to office based clinical/lab staff who have participated in supplemental education or training.
- Facilitates individualized patient/family education related to disease processes and management.
- Establishes collaborative working relationships, within and across departments, which promote patient safety, culturally-competent care and clinical excellence.
- Obtains nursing professional development, such as BLS or UDS/BAT Instructor certification as needed.
What We Require:
Education: Bachelor's degree or 4 years of experience from an accredited program in area of clinical specialty required in lieu of degree. Experience: 3-5 years of clinical experience. Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Licensed/Registered in clinical specialty as required by the state of Virginia (i.e. Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, etc) and department. Other Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge/experience in principles and theory in clinical specialty, skills and applying adult learning principles, assessment and evaluation skills, skills in interpreting complex data, knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice. Strong oral and written communication skills, project management skills, time management skills, organizational skills, training skills, customer service skills. Think critically, be creative and have the ability to take initiative to improve processes. Self-motivated and able to work independently yet also function well on a team.
