VACU Investment Group (VACUIG) is expanding our wealth management team throughout Virginia, including the Greater Richmond Area, Blacksburg, Roanoke, Harrisonburg, VA Beach, Norfolk, Williamsburg, and Lynchburg.

The role of the investment consultant is to establish value-added relationships with VACU members, understand their financial needs, and offer suitable solutions. VACUIG partners with Ameriprise Financial Group (AMPF), which serves as our Broker/Dealer. The selected candidate will be an employee of AMPF, working within VACU branches.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Prospecting within the financial institution: Establish relationships with client-facing associates to generate referrals. This is performed weekly (~20%).
  2. Prospecting outside the financial institution: Build external referral sources and attract new clients to the bank. This is performed weekly (~15%).
  3. Sales activities: Establish relationships with customers, assess their needs, and offer appropriate solutions, ensuring they understand the features and benefits. This is performed daily (~35%).
  4. Customer relationship management: Increase wallet share per client and seek cross-referrals within the bank. This is performed weekly (~20%).
  5. Compliance training: Complete required BSA/AML and other compliance training as needed (~10%).
  6. Additional duties: Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

Minimum knowledge, skills, & abilities:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Active Series 7, 63/65, or 66 licenses (or to be obtained within 120 days of hire)
  • Self-motivated, creative, and decisive
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively to client needs
  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills; superior customer service
  • 1-3+ years of experience supporting a Financial Advisor or as a Financial Advisor, with financial planning, CRM experience, preferably in retail
  • Proficient in financial services products/services
  • Strong consulting, influencing, and client engagement skills
  • Professional demeanor, honesty, integrity, and strong ethics aligned with IPI values

Preferred additional skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Ability to deliver a unique client experience
  • 3-5 years of high-volume customer contact experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and applications
  • Accountability for key results
  • Relationship building skills
  • Quick problem-solving in fast-paced environments
  • Excellent phone skills

Communication Skills

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, policies, and procedures; effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the public.
