The City of Roanoke is seeking a Director of Finance to plan, organize, and direct all financial activities of the City. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to providing leadership and insight in the areas of general accounting, accounts payable, payroll, pension plan/retirement administration and real estate; coordinating the development of the General Fund, Enterprise Fund, Internal Services Fund, Capital Improvement Program budgets and coordinates all major capital financing initiatives; serving in an advisory capacity regarding investment of city funds. Additional job responsibilities entail accountability based on measurable cost effective results for the substance, efficiency, productivity and quality of activities performed within divisions. The successful candidate will direct 4 managers who supervise approximately 40-50 employees in the functional areas of Finance, Budget, Real Estate Valuation and Retirement and be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Further responsibilities entail accountability based on measurable cost effective results for the substance, efficiency, productivity and quality of activities performed within divisions. This position requires a bachelor's degree from four year college or university with a major in business, accounting, finance, public administration or a related field; Master's degree preferred, but not required; Ten years progressively responsible experience in finance administration preferably in governmental accounting. Considerable administrative management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Public Accountant preferred.
