A residential foundation foreman is a supervisory role responsible for leading and coordinating a crew in the installation or repair of residential foundations, typically involving concrete. This person ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to high-quality standards by overseeing daily operations, managing materials, and interpreting construction plans.


Key duties and responsibilities



  • Crew leadership and supervision: Assign daily tasks to crew members and subcontractors, provide guidance and training, and monitor the crew's performance and productivity to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Project coordination: Schedule crew activities, coordinate the delivery and staging of materials like concrete and rebar, and manage the use of tools and heavy equipment.

  • Quality assurance: Interpret and enforce project specifications, blueprints, and building codes throughout the construction process. The foreman also conducts pre-pour checks and site inspections to ensure quality standards are upheld.

  • Safety management: Promote and enforce a strict safety culture, including conducting daily job safety analyses (JSAs), ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and identifying and rectifying potential job site hazards.

  • Technical execution: Lead and participate in the hands?on work, including site layout, formwork assembly, concrete pouring and finishing, and structural reinforcement.

  • Communication and reporting: Serve as a key point of contact on-site, communicating with project managers, inspectors, subcontractors, and homeowners. The foreman is also responsible for completing daily logs, timekeeping records, and progress reports.

  • Problem?solving: Identify and resolve problems that arise on the job site related to materials, scheduling, or personnel to keep the project on track.


Required skills and qualifications



  • Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of hands?on experience in concrete foundation or repair, with at least 2 years in a foreman or crew leadership role.

  • Technical knowledge: In-depth knowledge of concrete construction methods, materials, and equipment. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Leadership abilities: Strong organizational, communication, and problem?solving skills to manage people and project logistics effectively.

  • Certifications: OSHA 10?Hour certification is often required, with OSHA 30 preferred.

  • Physical fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding labor, including lifting heavy materials (up to 5070 pounds), standing for long periods, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Other requirements: A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is typically required.
