AEP is seeking motivated engineers and engineering technologists (P&C, Station, to join our Roanoke VA and Tulsa, OK vicinity. Whether youre designing critical infrastructure, keeping our lines strong, supporting substation and telecom teams or working complex projects, your work wont go unnoticed in the communities we serve.


What Youll Do


Protection and Control Engineering



  • Project scoping

  • Technical drawings development and review

  • Power flow analysis

  • Standards and policies application

  • Engineering consultant oversight

  • Fault simulations

  • Protection relay settings development

  • Compliance activities adherence

  • Project management

  • Learning and development

  • Field visits (~10% travel)


Substation Engineering



  • Project scoping

  • Technical drawings development and review

  • Grounding, Lightning shielding, and lighting studies

  • Standards and policies application

  • Engineering consultant oversight

  • Material identification and ordering

  • Compliance activities adherence

  • Project management

  • Learning and development

  • Field visits (~10% travel)


Civil/Site Engineering



  • Site grading design

  • Road design

  • Stormwater management design

  • Erosion Control design

  • Engineering consultant oversight

  • Coordinate Retaining Wall Design

  • Stormwater permitting support

  • Ordering survey

  • Ordering geotechnical borings

  • Construction monitoring/support

  • Perform field visits (~10% travel)


Geotechnical Engineering



  • Research Geologic Hazards

  • Plan Subsurface Investigations

  • Review Geotechnical Reports

  • Foundation type selection

  • Foundation Design

  • Retaining Wall Design

  • Landslide Mitigation

  • Support Civil Grading Designs

  • Construction monitoring/support

  • Consultant oversight

  • Perform field visits (~20% travel)


Structural Engineering



  • Project scoping

  • Technical drawings development and review

  • Oil Containment Design

  • Standards and policies application

  • Engineering consultant oversight

  • Foundation, rigid?bus and structure calculations

  • Compliance activities adherence

  • Project management

  • Learning and development

  • Field visits (~10% travel)


Note: This posting represents multiple positions posted in a range. The final grade and compensation offered will be based on the successful candidates education, experience, and relevant skills.


What Were Looking For


Engineer Assc/ Eng Tech Assc (Grade 05) $79,000 - $82,000



  • This is an entry level position for new graduates with a Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology in a program accredited by ABET*

  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.


Engineer / Engineer Tech (Grade 06-07): $82,000 - $105,000



  • Has typically acquired two - four (2-4) or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology in a program accredited by ABET*

  • Individuals with a Masters degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET may be considered for entry into the organization at Grade 06 level.


*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.


Acceptable Alternatives



  • Bachelors degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. OR

  • Bachelors degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Masters degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
