Job Title: Shift Operations Manager - D Shift

Location: Roanoke, VA

Schedule: D Shift

Reports To: Plant Manager

Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt

About the Role:

We are seeking a strong, hands-on Shift Operations Manager to lead and oversee all plant operations during the D Shift. This role is responsible for driving safety, quality, productivity, and overall performance by managing cross-functional teams across the entire plant. While not a subject matter expert (SME) in any one area, this role requires strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills to ensure smooth shift execution and alignment with production goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all operational activities across production, maintenance, quality, and logistics during D Shift.
  • Ensure safe operations and compliance with company safety standards and policies.
  • Monitor plant performance and key metrics, proactively addressing any issues that impact productivity or quality.
  • Act as the primary decision-maker and escalation point for all operational matters on shift.
  • Drive shift start-up and shutdown processes, ensuring continuity across shift changes.
  • Coordinate with department leads and supervisors to ensure alignment of resources and priorities.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs, monitor workflows, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Plant Manager and other shift managers.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and development support to team members.
  • Ensure proper documentation of shift activities, incidents, and production outcomes.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Operations, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, with 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of production operations, safety protocols, and performance management.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage shift-level accountability.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships across departments.
  • Willingness to work night/weekend shift and be on-site during shift hours.
