Electrical/Mechanical Engineer – Mission-Critical Power & Cooling (MEP Specialist)

Location: Roanoke, VA (preferred) | Open to highly qualified remote candidates Department: Engineering Job Type: Full-Time Compensation: $82,000–$100,000 plus bonus, commensurate with experience

About the Role

2NSystems is seeking an experienced Electrical/Mechanical Engineer with specialized expertise in MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems for data center applications. This role goes beyond design—you will shape the entire lifecycle of mission-critical infrastructure projects, from concept through commissioning.

As a subject matter expert in power and cooling solutions, you will design and implement robust, energy-efficient, and scalable systems for high-availability data centers and other critical environments. You will produce detailed technical drawings, develop comprehensive bills of materials (BOM), provide accurate job cost estimates, and collaborate closely with internal teams, external partners, and clients to ensure world-class reliability and performance.

About 2NSystems

At 2NSystems, we are an industry leader in data center and critical facility systems, products, and turnkey services. Our mission is to simplify and strengthen the complete lifecycle of critical infrastructure. We ensure that mission-critical data centers across the U.S. are powered, cooled, monitored, and protected with industry-leading expertise.

Our Core Values guide everything we do: Aligned | Disciplined | Respectful | Partnership | Results-Oriented | Transparent

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Development:
    • Create detailed 2D/3D CAD and Revit models for power distribution, HVAC, precision cooling, and advanced UPS/critical power systems.
    • Select equipment and build comprehensive BOMs to meet data center specifications.
    • Perform load calculations, short-circuit studies, and energy-efficiency modeling.
  • Project Execution:
    • Prepare accurate labor, equipment, and material cost estimates for proposals and bid packages.
    • Produce detailed construction documentation, technical specifications, and shop-drawing reviews.
    • Partner with project managers to track budgets, schedules, and milestones through commissioning.
  • Technical Leadership:
    • Act as SME for UPS systems, generators, switchgear, chilled-water systems, and high-density power distribution.
    • Provide on-site guidance during installation and acceptance testing.
    • Mentor junior engineers and conduct peer reviews to elevate technical standards.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay current with emerging technologies—modular power, liquid cooling, and high-efficiency MEP designs.
    • Maintain drawing libraries, SOPs, and commissioning checklists to standardize best practices.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering (Master's a plus).
  • Experience: 2+ years in mission-critical MEP design for data centers or similar infrastructure.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Deep knowledge of UPS systems, critical power redundancy (2N, N+1), and precision cooling.
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam Revu.
    • Familiarity with NEC, ASHRAE TC 9.9, NFPA 70/75/70E, and Uptime Institute Tier standards.
  • Preferred Credentials: Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred; PMP or energy-modeling certifications a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and cross-team collaboration skills.
