Job Title: Construction Director

Location: Roanoke, VA

Department: Construction/Growth

Reports To: SVP of Operations or Executive Leadership


Job Summary:

Virginia Transformer is seeking a strategic and execution-focused Construction Director to lead planning and execution of manufacturing facilities expansion and facilities. This role is responsible for overseeing plant expansion initiatives, identifying and specifying equipment and facility needs in collaboration with plant management , Planning and execution of construction ; procurement, installation, and commissioning of all equipment and other facilities forplant operation goals. The ideal candidate will possess strong planningand vendor management skills, cross-functional coordination ability, and proven experience leading Construction capital investment projects of $1 to 100 million from concept through completion.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning , construction management and Equipment details

  • Review existing plant expansion plans and identify gaps or opportunities for optimization.
  • Partner with plant leadership to assess growth requirements and determine equipment and facility needs to support capacity, safety, and efficiency goals.
  • Develop construction needed to support growth- it could be relayout, adding floor space or green field/ brown field construction.
  • Develop short- and long-term capital expenditure plans aligned with business objectives.
  • Develop the generalized specification for all construction -floor, building types, and equipment.

Capital Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Lead the construction management thru teams to ensure right specifications, RFP process, design build or other processes, manage schedules and quality, cost, controls on changes.
  • Lead the procurement strategy for capital equipment, including sourcing, vendor evaluation, and contract negotiation.
  • Ensure all specifications, timelines, and quality standards are clearly defined and communicated to suppliers. Experience in formulating specification for various equipment with support from operation team to deliver the required performance.
  • Maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure cost-effective, timely delivery and service.

Project Execution & Oversight

  • Own the execution of Construction and capital projects from approval through installation and commissioning.
  • Monitor project budgets, schedules, and risks, ensuring timely project completion and cost control.
  • Lead project close-out processes, including sign-off, documentation, and handover to plant teams.
  • Experience of support from vendors after the initial installation and commissioning.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil/Mechanical), Construction Management, or related field; advanced degree a plus. PMP certification will be a plus , however not a must
  • 15+ years of experience managing Construction and capital projects in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proven track record of managing end-to-end construction CAPEX projects including specification , procurement, installation, and commissioning.
  • Strong of vendor contract writing and management, equipment procurement processes, and industrial project timelines.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Project) and project management tools.
  • Willingness to travel to Virginia Transformer plant locations as needed.
