Description:

Job Description: Collegiate School seeks a Director of Campus Safety and Security. The Director will maintain a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and visitors by developing, establishing, and enforcing safety and security policies, access control procedures, and accident prevention efforts. This position will also be responsible for developing and implementing risk management strategies, fire safety precautions, emergency management and operations plans, and asset protection procedures. Parking control and traffic enforcement programs are also a responsibility of this position.

This is a full-time benefitted 12-month position reporting directly to the Chief Financial and Chief Operating Officer.

General Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise a team of 6-9 full and part-time Security Officers and campus County Police Officers, with authority to make hiring decisions.
  • Provide vision, leadership, and administration for all safety & security programs on campus.
  • Develop and review school-wide emergency response procedures and protocols.
  • Serve as a core member of the School's Risk Management Team and Behavioral Threat Assessment Team.
  • Integrate safety, security, and emergency preparedness into daily school practices.
  • Conduct and coordinate safety, security, and emergency preparedness training for faculty, staff, students, and public safety officials.
  • Monitor faculty and volunteer drivers' records to meet minimum standards.
  • Deliver biannual security updates to faculty & staff and safety updates to parents annually.
  • Coordinate emergency responses with school administration, first responders, and other personnel within the Incident Management System.
  • Conduct investigations as directed.
  • Support safety planning for all school divisions and programs, ensuring safety measures enhance rather than impede education.
  • Monitor division carpools, weather events, and coordinate shelter and dismissal procedures.
  • Review and develop security staff patrolling procedures, conduct performance counseling, and ensure training.
  • Plan and execute parking and emergency response plans for large events.
  • Review school calendars to ensure proper security staffing for events and rentals.
  • Patrol campus to identify and prevent safety hazards, ensuring adequate lighting and security camera coverage.
  • Manage keyless entry systems, door controls, and security cameras.
  • Update emergency management communications annually, including signage, plans, maps, and handbooks.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in law enforcement, security, risk management, fire service, or emergency management.
  • Bachelor's Degree or professional certifications such as PSP, CPP, PCI, CEM, or AEM.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills for all levels of personnel.
  • Certifications: ASIS PSP or CPP, VA DCJS School Security Officer or Campus Safety Officer, K-12 Behavioral Threat Assessment, FEMA ICS training.
  • Knowledge of VA laws and codes related to safety and security in school environments.
