Job Duties

Are you a passionate, customer service-oriented, and strategic Human Resources leader? The Virginia Department of Transportation Salem District HR team seeks an innovative and collaborative Senior HR Consultant to provide advanced professional HR consultation across various HR functions, including compensation, classification, talent acquisition, employee relations, and performance management. This position is based in Salem, VA, with telework options in accordance with the Commonwealth's Teleworking policy.

About The Position

As a Senior HR Consultant, you will advise managers and employees on policy interpretation, ensure legal compliance, and assist with performance planning and staffing. The role requires expertise in talent acquisition, compensation, classification, employee relations, staff development, and coaching. You will work with diverse audiences including agency leadership, the public, other state agencies, and private sector partners.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of HR principles including recruitment, classification, compensation, organization design, and employee relations.
• Understanding of federal and state HR regulations.
• Experience with HR record keeping and information systems.
• Ability to analyze data, develop strategies, and advise management.
• Effective communication skills, confidentiality, and ability to handle multiple priorities.
• Willingness to travel occasionally within the state.

Additional Considerations

• Bachelor's degree in HR Management or Organizational Development.
• Significant professional HR experience, preferably in Virginia state government.
• Certifications such as SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP/PHR/SPHR are preferred.
• Experience with employee relations, investigations, coaching, training, and classification reviews.
• Full scope of talent acquisition experience.
