Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead hiring, training, development, and supervision of the Accounting/Finance team.
  2. Establish departmental standards, guidelines, and objectives, including budget and staffing management.
  3. Participate in designing and implementing financial plans related to general ledger, accounts receivable/payable, fixed assets, purchasing, payroll, and financial analysis.
  4. Approve purchases within budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  5. Serve as the primary contact for the Churchill Downs Incorporated accounting team.
  6. Collaborate with Revenue Audit on revenue recording and trend analysis.
  7. Oversee the month-end closing process, ensuring compliance with CDI standards and deadlines.
  8. Coordinate financial reporting and audit preparations.
  9. Support budgeting and forecasting processes, including capital expenditures.
  10. Produce and analyze financial statements and reports.
  11. Review General Ledger activity for trends and anomalies.
  12. Coordinate with Compliance on regulatory payments and reporting.
  13. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Leadership, management, and excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, reporting, and forecasting.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, general ledger, payroll, fixed assets, and gaming regulations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and accounting software.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • At least 2 years' experience as a Controller preferred.
  • 3+ years in accounting, financial planning, or related roles.
  • Knowledge of gaming finance is a plus. Experience in hospitality or large multi-site operations is preferred.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Virginia Racing Commission License.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and use of hands.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Moderate noise level; potential exposure to smoke on gaming floor.
