Maintenance Tech IV - Athletic Field Maintenance

The City of Roanoke is seeking a crew lead for the Athletic Field Maintenance team to assign and supervise the work of maintenance technicians and workers and participates in the management of athletic fields and park maintenance. Athletic field management includes but is not limited to: game preparation (lining, dragging, asset placement, etc...), mowing, trimming, aeration, fertilization, seeding, and irrigation. Park maintenance includes but is not limited to: restroom cleaning, asset repair, and trash removal. Must be proficient in the use and supervision of large athletic turf equipment such as John Deer Reel Mowers, Toro 5910, zero-turn and walk-behind mowers, Steiner with attachment, Turf Tank field liner, skid steer loader, infield pro, and various other tractors, aerators and small equipment. Effective oral and written communication is required. Discusses job requirements with and receives detailed instruction from supervisor. Inspects work in progress to assure conformance with instructions and standards. Requisitions necessary equipment and materials. Assists with special events, snow removal and other emergency tasks; including some nights and weekends, as needed. Maintains time and material records and prepares simple reports. High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and three to five years of experience and/or training in athletic turf maintenance and management or equivalent combination of education and experience. A Class B Commercial Driver License is preferred but the ability to obtain a Class B CDL learners permit and license within 6 months of hiring is a minimum. Possessing a Registered Technician Spraying license, a Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification and a Fertilizer Applicator Certification are preferred but the ability to obtain all three within 18 months is required.
