Do you have compassion and a desire to help children and families in need? The Prince William County Department of Social Services is seeking to hire a highly motivated individual to fill a Human Services Caseworker Associate position in the Family Support Services Division. The Family Support Services Division manages state-mandated programs related to resource homes (foster homes), foster care, adoption, and Interstate Compact on Placement of Children (ICPC). We are a team-oriented agency looking for staff who are committed to excellence and are dedicated to positively impacting the quality of life of children and families involved in the child welfare system. The focus of the Division is to ensure safety, well-being and permanency for our children and families.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:

In this role, you will coordinate with Human Services Caseworkers to deliver services that support casework, to include, but not limited to:

  • Conducting home visits.
  • Supervising visitation.
  • Providing transportation to appointments.
  • Coordinating medical and dental appointments.
  • Maintaining documentation in the state case management system, OASIS.
  • Preparing reports.
  • Completing diligent and Accurint searches.
  • Preparing and disseminating correspondence.
  • Manage scheduling for Division fleet of vehicles.
  • Assist with obtaining records as needed.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with at-risk children and families in a human services environment; experience assisting families to overcome personal, social, health and economic barriers; and experience preparing reports and maintaining case documentation. You must have a positive approach and be able to contribute creative solutions to complex problems. Candidates must be responsible and able to work with limited supervision.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Prince William Department of Social Services has over 400 employees who serve the community through adult and child welfare programs, public benefits distribution, and homeless prevention services. MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years of experience in a human services-related field.

PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • 1-2 years of experience working in child welfare or foster care programs.
  • 1-2 years of experience assisting families to overcome personal, social, health and economic barriers.
  • 1-2 years of experience preparing reports and maintaining case documentation.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish).

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: 37.5 hours per week.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster.
  • Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services and DMV background checks.
  • Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster-care program may not be employed by the Prince William Dept of Social Services. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.
  • Staff in this position must possess a valid driver's license to perform this work.
  • Staff in this position may periodically be eligible to telework but will be required to report to the office intermittently. Telework eligibility is subject to change as business needs warrant; there is no future guarantee of telework.

ENTRY SALARY RANGE: $28.32 - $40.69 Hourly
