Director of Community Engagement, Alpha - $200,000/year USD

  2026-05-23     CrossOver     Roanoke,VA
Description:

On-site (multiple locations)
W2
$200K annually

The families who select Alpha surround themselves with trusted advisors across every dimension of their lives. This role fills the one they haven't found yet. You will become the person they reach out to in moments of uncertainty, when instinct tells them something needs attention, or when they wish to share an experience they know you will value. Your understanding of each family will develop to the point where you can sense their needs ahead of articulation—and you will possess the judgment and composure to address whatever they bring you with discretion, genuine warmth, and apparent ease. Over time, your role will extend beyond being part of their child's educational institution. You will become woven into how they live through this period of their family's journey.

This depth of trust is not produced by systems. It emerges from presence—consistent, daily, and unhurried. Your visibility will be essential at morning arrival and afternoon departure, at the evening occasions that carry weight, and in the unscheduled conversations that never appear on anyone's agenda. You will cultivate a community that families feel invested in protecting, where the sense of belonging arises naturally and referrals occur because the quality of experience warrants them.

Alpha operates outside traditional school frameworks. Students complete core academic work in two hours daily using AI-driven applications, dedicating the remainder of their time to public speaking, critical reasoning, and applied projects. No conventional lectures. No unnecessary assignments. Performance that places them in the top 1% nationally. The families who commit to this approach are investing in a model they find compelling—but conviction requires ongoing care.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Take ownership of the relationship with each family on campus—the continuous, evolving connection that ensures parents feel recognized, not merely accommodated
  • Identify potential concerns ahead of their emergence, and address them with the discretion and interpersonal skill that preserves trust
  • Maintain visible presence in the spaces families occupy: morning arrival (7–9 am), afternoon departure (2–4 pm), evening family gatherings, and select weekend programming
  • Create a campus community with authentic depth—programming, rituals, and points of connection that foster a sense of belonging to something families consider valuable
  • Develop parent advocates through organic means, delivering experiences of such consistent quality that referrals emerge as a natural consequence
  • Sustain the ongoing dialogue about Alpha's AI-driven model with families who are managing screen time considerations, unconvinced extended relatives, and periodic uncertainty—not only during enrollment, but throughout their entire campus experience
  • Recognize when a family alignment is not optimal and manage that situation with the same care you apply universally—safeguarding the community is integral to serving it
  • Develop the structures and cadences this role demands in a context where established protocols are still emerging

What You Won't Be Doing

  • Overseeing enrollment processes—that responsibility belongs to the Admissions Director; your work commences when families join and deepens progressively
  • Operating from behind a desk—your community presence defines the role
  • Maintaining standard 9–5 schedules—early mornings, extended afternoons, and evening programming are fundamental aspects of the position, not occasional requirements
  • Relying on administrative infrastructure, established procedures, or a complete team—you function with significant autonomy and create what the role requires
  • Approaching family relationships as transactional accounts—this role rewards authentic connection, not procedural adherence

Director Of Community Engagement Key Responsibilities

Serve as the central trusted relationship in every family's Alpha experience. Maintain their confidence through challenging periods, cultivate a community where belonging feels meaningful, and establish the conditions under which satisfied families naturally become active advocates.

Basic Requirements

  • Currently living within commuting range of one of these locations or prepared to relocate within 60 days (preference given to candidates with established local community connections)
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship
  • Minimum 5 years in a relationship-focused role serving high-net-worth or ultra-high-net-worth families—independent school admissions, high-end hospitality, philanthropic advisory, or any setting where discretion, warmth, and interpersonal fluency carried equal weight to professional competence
  • Proven capacity to maintain relationships through challenging situations with sophisticated families while emerging with trust strengthened
  • Authentic presence and communication approach that builds confidence rapidly with affluent, demanding families—polished without appearing rehearsed
  • Direct familiarity with independent, private, or alternative education—either professionally or as a parent—that provides you credible standing when families raise questions about the model
  • Authentic conviction in AI-powered education and the capacity to sustain that belief authentically across years of parent relationships, extending well beyond initial enrollment discussions
  • Flexibility for variable hours: early mornings (7–9 am), late afternoons (2–4 pm), evening programming 2–3 times monthly, and periodic weekend activities

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Established connections within the local affluent community that would provide you immediate, organic credibility on campus
  • Independent or private school background with demonstrated success in family retention and community cultivation—beyond simple enrollment metrics
  • Background managing sensitive family relationships where your judgment and discretion were the foundation of sustained trust
  • A natural capacity for designing experiences—gatherings, moments, settings—that make people feel part of something they want to protect
  • Prior startup or early-stage organizational experience where you built from the ground up and maintained composure amid rapid change

Working with us
