Join Optum Health's Financial Data Management team as a Data Analyst II and help shape the future of data-driven decision-making for our Finance, Accounting, and Business Operations partners.
In this role, you'll work with large, structured datasets to uncover insights that drive strategic and operational outcomes across the organization. You'll design and build business intelligence tools, develop scalable data solutions, and deliver actionable recommendations that influence key decisions.

Primary Responsibilities:
Application & System Proficiency
Rapidly gain proficiency with specialized applications, including accounting systems and financial databases
Collaborate with development and leadership teams to propose system enhancements and support accounting standards
Data Analysis & Interpretation
Analyze complex datasets to uncover business opportunities, risks, and performance drivers
Apply advanced analytics to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and optimize financial data workflows
Document current-state business processes, including automation, exception handling, and issue resolution within internal accounting systems
Develop, document, and implement test plans aligned with functional requirements for new systems or upgrades
Present actionable insights using compelling visuals and clear narratives
Data Collection & Integration
Participate in the migration of legacy data systems to cloud-based infrastructure, with a focus on designing, optimizing, and managing data pipelines within Snowflake
Demonstrated experience in writing, maintaining, and debugging SQL stored procedures to support complex data transformations and business logic
Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and integrity through rigorous validation
Optimize data structures for performance in tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
Complex Problem Solving
Collaborate cross-functionally to investigate and resolve data anomalies or logic issues
Address ambiguous or high-impact business challenges through root cause analysis and data-driven solutions
Read, write, and debug existing SQL code to optimize performance
Stakeholder Collaboration
Translate business questions into technical requirements
Partner with non-technical stakeholders to define reporting goals and success metrics
Incorporate subject matter expertise into analytics design and algorithm development
Act as a key resource for resolving complex or critical data-related issues
Maintenance & Governance
Ensure data freshness, reliability, and security across reporting systems
Adhere to data governance, compliance, and internal control policies
Automate report updates and monitor performance
Review and provide feedback on analytics work produced by peers

Required Qualifications:
3+ years of data analytics, computer science, or business intelligence experience
1+ years of healthcare data experience - claims, encounters, provider or member data
Hands-on experience creating SQL Queries, Joins and Triggers
Experience using pivot tables, lookup functions and formulas to analyze and summarize data in Excel
Experience building data models or structured workbooks to organize and analyze large datasets in Excel
Experience automating recurring reports using macros, Power Query, or formula-based automation
Experience with data load processes like Extract, Transform, Load (ETL)
Experience collaborating with business teams or technical teams to define requirements
Knowledge of relational databases like Microsoft SQL Server or Snowflake
Expertise in programming languages like Python, PowerShell, or .NET
Professional proficiency in data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI
Ability to work in Eastern or Central time zones
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with payor or clinical systems (e.g. Epic, NextGen, AllScripts, Athena, eCW)
Knowledge of healthcare data structures and terminology (claims, encounters, provider, member data, etc.)
Understanding of core accounting principles (GAAP, accruals, reconciliations, journal entries, etc.)
Proven solid analytical and problem-solving skills for identifying trends, variances, and root causes
Proven solid written and verbal communication skills - able to explain technical data clearly to non-technical stakeholder

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $71,200 to $127,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
